States with Mandatory PDMP Requirements

Many states have strict mandatory prescription drug monitoring program (PDMP) requirements. With these in place, states are able to manage and share an electronic database that tracks patient’s controlled substance prescriptions.

These were created to help you (healthcare providers) better understand a patient’s prescription medical/drug history and  improve the health and well-being of individual patients.

Prescription drug monitoring programs are managed on the state – not federal – level. Per the U.S. Department of Justice Diversion Control Division, there are currently 46 states with a prescription drug monitoring program with the ability to receive and distribute information to authorized users.

Benefits of a PDMP

Although every state has a unique approach to using a PDMP, the benefits remain the same:

  • Identify patients who are abusing controlled substances

  • Support access to the responsible use of controlled substances

  • Educate individuals regarding the abuse of, and addiction to, prescription drugs

With a prescription drug monitoring program in place, it’s more difficult for a patient to abuse the healthcare system to obtain controlled substances, such as by visiting several doctors to receive prescriptions.

  4. Our team will reach out to you for any necessary paperwork

  5. Our team will handle the registration and testing with the state and then reach back out when your connection is available
